The complete removal of the breast is not a current treatment method for every patient diagnosed with breast cancer. Of course, there are situations where such removal may be necessary.
Modern breast surgical methods exist that do not involve the complete removal of the breast. These methods vary based on factors such as the size of the breast cancer, its spread, and the response of the patient to treatment (Neoadjuvant chemotherapy).
In patients with a large breast cancer mass, a preoperative chemotherapy known as Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is planned to administer chemotherapy treatment to the patient.
Following the completion of chemotherapy, breast-conserving surgery can be applied without removing the breast. This can involve Subcutaneous Mastectomy, where the entire breast tissue is removed while leaving the skin intact, and simultaneous or subsequent reconstruction with breast implants.
If the patient is suitable when diagnosed with breast cancer, breast-conserving surgery can be performed, or an alternative option of Subcutaneous Mastectomy with Breast Implant Reconstruction can be offered. In today's medical practices, surgical procedures involving the complete removal of the breast are applied to a very small percentage of patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
The primary goals are to first distance the patient from the tumor, then leave behind aesthetically pleasing breast tissue, and subsequently administer necessary treatments (hormone therapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy).
